How Long Should a Landscaping Project Take?

One of the first questions we get asked is "how long will it take?" It's a fair question — you want your garden back. Here's a realistic timeline for a typical hard landscaping project, so you know what to expect.

Stage 1: Quote and Design (1–2 Weeks)

From your initial enquiry, we aim to provide a written quote within one working day for online quotes, or within a week for in-person site visits. If your project needs design work — layout drawings, material selection, levels — that adds a few days.

Stage 2: Scheduling (2–6 Weeks)

Once you accept the quote, we schedule the work. Wait times vary depending on the time of year — spring and summer are our busiest periods, so lead times are longer. We'll give you a firm start date, not a vague "sometime in June."

Stage 3: The Build

Here's where the actual work happens. Timelines for common projects:

  • Patio (30–50m²): 5–8 working days
  • Driveway (50m²): 4–7 working days
  • Fencing (30m): 2–3 working days
  • Composite decking (25m²): 3–5 working days
  • Full garden makeover: 2–4 weeks

Why the Prep Takes Longer Than You Think

The first two or three days of any project are excavation and sub-base preparation. You won't see much progress — but this is the most important part of the job. A properly prepared base is the difference between a patio that lasts twenty-five years and one that sinks in five.

We excavate to the right depth, lay and compact the Type 1 MOT in layers, and check levels repeatedly. It's not glamorous, but it's what makes the finished result last.

What Can Delay a Project

  • Weather — heavy rain stops excavation and laying work (we won't lay paving on a flooded base)
  • Material availability — we order materials in advance, but occasional supply delays happen
  • Unexpected ground conditions — if we find soft ground, old foundations, or drainage issues, we need to address them before continuing
  • Design changes — changes mid-project add time, so we encourage you to finalise the design before we start

Our Commitment

We give you a realistic timeline upfront, keep you informed if anything changes, and turn up when we say we will. No starting a job and disappearing for three weeks.
