The Best Time of Year for Landscaping Work in the North West
One of the questions we hear most: 'When should we book?' The honest answer is that different jobs suit different seasons — and knowing the rhythm can save you money and months of waiting.
Spring (March–May): book early or miss out
Spring is peak season. Everyone wants their garden ready for summer, so good landscapers' diaries fill by February. It's the ideal window for turfing, planting and getting maintenance schedules started — but if you want a patio built for summer, enquire in winter.
Summer (June–August): perfect building weather
Long days and dry(ish) ground make summer ideal for hard landscaping — patios, driveways, decking and fencing all go in faster and cleaner. The trade-off is demand: lead times stretch to six weeks or more. Turfing gets risky in hot spells unless you can commit to daily watering.
Autumn (September–November): the smart buyer's season
Autumn is arguably the best-kept secret in landscaping. The ground is workable, demand eases, and a patio or driveway finished in October is ready and settled the moment spring arrives. It's also the prime season for turfing and planting — autumn rain establishes roots with no watering effort from you.
Winter (December–February): shortest lead times, keenest prices
Hard frosts pause some work, but most hard landscaping continues through a typical North West winter. Excavation, walls, fencing and paving all proceed in dry, frost-free spells — and because demand drops, lead times shrink dramatically. Booking winter work is the surest way to jump the spring queue.
Maintenance: a year-round rhythm
- Spring: first cuts, feeding, border prep
- Summer: fortnightly mowing, hedge trimming, deadheading
- Autumn: leaf clearance, final cuts, cutting back
- Winter: hedge reduction, pressure washing, tidy-ups
Most of our regular clients run fortnightly visits April to October, monthly through winter.
